『サクラクエスト』公式メモリアルブック
For those who are accustomed to collecting P.A. Works’ comprehensive artbooks, this ‘Memorial Book’ of merely 80 pages for the 2017 original TV anime series『Sakura Quest』is more of a disappointment. Sure, its title didn’t crown itself to be an artbook (公式設定集), yet still, I expected something better from a studio like P.A. Works.
The first section comprises 52 pages of character design. Images are smaller than usual, and they are tightly tiled within a page. The 3 pages of prop design that follow are also highly densely packed with small-sized images. Then the next 8 pages of environment design are even worse: the background art and environment line art, printed side by side, are so small that readers can hardly see any detail. Not to mention many of the scenes that appear in the 25-episode series were not included in this memorial book.
This book opens up P.A. Works’ tradition of fusing a fan-orientated staff message book with an artbook into one: in the end are an interview with the director, plus illustrated messages to the readers by the staff members who had worked on the series.
