山本二三:風景を描く

This book written by the Japanese art director Nizo Yamamoto instructs readers how to paint background art for animated works and in general using poster colour paint (a kind of watersoluble paint that is more opaque than gouache).

After a brief presentation on the tools Yamamoto uses, the book launches into step by step instructions on how to paint clouds, water, soil, fire, trees, and buildings. Every textual explanation is accompanied with close-up images, and special details to pay particular attention to are highlighted.

In this book filled with a multitude of visual examples painted by Yamamoto himself, the master shares with readers his tips and techniques at approaching certain subjects in landscape painting. The last 50 pages are devoted to interview and explanation of the art of animation background.
